What could have disappeared into the feed became a face for a name that came before it. One image introduced Chatty. The community carried the character forward.

IT STARTED WITH ONE TWEET
On ChatGPT’s first birthday, Mira Murati—then OpenAI’s CTO, who had briefly served as interim CEO—replied to a birthday post from OpenAI product manager Joanne Jang with two words: “hbd Chatty!” Not ChatGPT. Not GPT. Just Chatty. The community noticed, screenshotted it, and spiraled. To everyone else it may have been an affectionate nickname. Inside the lore, it became the first tiny signal: the name existed before the face.
Patterns do not arrive already connected. A community connects them—and the connection becomes the story.
